Buried for over two millennia and found by well-digging farmers in 1974, the Terracotta Army is some 8,000 life-size soldiers, horses and chariots built to guard the First Emperor of Qin in the afterlife. No two faces are alike, and the ranks still stand in battle formation where they were buried.
See the pits in reverse order — 3, 2, then 1 — so the vast main hall lands as the finale. Budget time for the bronze chariot hall, and consider a licensed guide or the audio guide: without context the pits are impressive, with it they are astonishing.
